On the 11th of November the Rapid technology Centre of University Duisburg-Essen organizes the Workshop "Fundamentals of the additive manufacturing process"In this workshop, you will receive a comprehensive introduction to additive manufacturing (AM). Practical examples from industry and research will illustrate the diverse applications and immense innovation potential of AM. These examples will demonstrate how additive manufacturing has driven new developments and efficiency improvements across various sectors. Additionally, current areas for action and the existing limitations of additive manufacturing will be addressed, with a focus on the technical, and economical challenges. The workshop is designed for beginners and professionals alike, aiming to provide a deeper understanding of the potential of additive manufacturing and offer detailed insights into the latest developments and challenges in this field.

Additive Manufacturing, broadly known as 3D printing is transforming how products are designed, produced, and serviced.&nbsp;Global supply chains have proven to be very vulnerable in global crisis situations. Together with increased energy and transport costs, this is forcing SMEs to adopt innovative and efficient approaches to keep production in Europe. Additive Manufacturing (AM), broadly known as 3D printing, offers such an approach. It creates new possibilies and solves issues in the Manufacturing Industry.However, AM processes require a high degree of specific process knowledge. 3D printing is already used in 42% of large German companies, but only 4% of small businesses use this technology.&nbsp;With this workshop, we want to give SMEs the possibility to get to know the fundamental of the additive manufacturing process, opening opportunities for their own company.&nbsp;

What is additive manufacturing?

Organizer of this workshop is the <a href="https://www.uni-due.de/en/" target="_blank">Rapid Technology Centre of the University of Duisburg-Essen (RTC)</a>. The RTC is also coördinator of the <a href="https://www.mnm-interreg.eu/themes/distributed-additive-manufacturing" target="_blank">MNM Lighthouse project Distributed Additive Manufacturing</a>. In this pilotproject the RTC defines the technical infrastructure of the 3D-lab for industrial AM processes and for finding and testing material applications. These should be available to SMEs in the sub-projects in the open part of the project at the RTC. RTC explicitly focuses on the use and development of AM processes for the production of these components.
